First Machine and IO

I have a question - I am working on my first machine, a simple staging conveyor for pallets. I have started writing the program using AutomationDirect Productivity 3000 programming software. It has the ability to provide a simulated PLC for program debugging, etc. I have mapped all the IO to modbus addresses. On the machine simulator I have set up one conveyor and assigned the motor run command and motor running feedback IO. When I go to run the project on the simulator and I force the motor run command output on, nothing happens. When I force the motor running feedback input on (at the simulated plc) the conveyor runs. What am I doing wrong?

Is difficult to help only with this info, can you share screenshots about the Modbus driver configuration and PLC program?
